Photographs

When the new NICPBA website (www.nicpba.co.uk) was launched as it was not possible to move the images from the old site (www.connemaraponybreeders-nicpba.co.uk) directly to the new.  At the time, however,  most photographs were archived and are still available on request and can be reposted.

Loguestown Warrior Conquers in Lincolnshire Show !

Received from Ivan Adams, of Loguestown Native Breeds, Portrush.

Just received this info re a Connemara we bred he is called Loguestown Warrior by Drumlane Warrior out of Crossowen Ciara.

“The attached photo was taken at the Amateur Showing Society show last Saturday (31july) at Arena Uk , Grantham. It Was his 1st show as he’s only just been broken & he was an absolute superstar. He won the Novice Championship on the Saturday that put him through to the Open Ridden Championship in the Evening Performance! He was rock solid throughout the music playing & all the clapping & he ended up Reserve Champion! We were thrilled & hope this leads to more things.”

Clearly the current owners of 'Charlie', as he was known, are delighted !  What does that not say about the temperament and trainability of the Connemara !

And news from our secretary, James Naan, ......    August 16th.

'If you ......... go to my facebook page there are 2 wonderful photos of Galloon Rollover (Barney) at PoniesUK over the weekend.  Because his owner,  Katie Bacon,  has broken her arm and is unable to ride him, he was ridden by 4 different people in 4 different classes and got four 1st prizes and the Connemara in-hand Championship.  Some result for a class 2 !!!!!!!'

With Gun Smoke ( by Smokey Duncan ) back in Ireland at the Kippure Stud these last couple of years,

why not have a look at where he spent his years in the States ?

The owner, Vanessa Morgan, has a great website, with loads of pictures of her 'Foothills' Connemara Ponies,

including stock bred from Gun Smoke, and 'Piedmont' part-breds.  Enjoy the visit !

             Hi there.

I thought I would send you a pic of my part bred connie River Vali. He is now 5 years. We live in SW France and River spends his life enjoying the fantastic riding we have here. He is just starting to jump. I am hoping to start doing TREC competions with him in the future.

              Anya.

Merci beaucoup, Anya !  Il le trouve plus frais au-dessous des arbres !

Please find attached a couple of pics of Rickamore Joker competing in dressage and endurance, he is an absolute joy to own and is not only brave, but great fun.

Best regards

Introducing The Ponies Of Clare Downs Stud
 Western Australia

We are delighted to introduce our members to the Burren family, who keep and cross-breed Connemara, Welsh Section D and Thoroughbred lines to produce an all round small performance horse, termed the 'Galloway'. Their resident Connemara stallion, It's A Shamrock Golden Syrup, traces his sire line back to Carna Dun. 'Bundy', as he is known, is a true to type pony with loads of character and bone, and just over 13.2hh. Proving that pure-bred Connemaras can compete on an equal footing with part-breds, the Clare Downs team regularly gain sucess at dressage and eventing. In contrast to most of us here, Jeannine Burren has never owned a grey Connemara !

Here are some pics of Itsa Shamrock Golden Syrup - Competing Introductory Two at Gidgegannup CNC Two Star 2009. The Clare Downs ponies are all ridden and competed barefoot - have a look at our Health and Welfare page for more info on the benefits of barefoot.
Cheers, Jeannine.

Home safe ! And placed at his first ever Two Star !

News received April 2010 from Jeaninne Burren
Our stud was quite successful at the ( recent ) APSB Champion Stud Show.  We were successful with Champion Connemara Filly or Mare and Champion Colt or Stallion who also took out Champion Youngstock Connemara and also took out the Partbred Champion with a 5mth old filly by Itsa Shamrock Golden Syrup out of a Thoroughbred who also took out Junior Champion Partbred APSB (which is drawn from all crosses registered as APSB - GOOD for the Connemara breed) also our stud. Our other partbred APSB was Welsh D x T/b which ran third so we were pretty happy with the days results.

Tawny Dun Stud
Suffolk, England

The Tawny Dun Stud is run by NICPBA member, Mrs. Penny Makinson, with the specific aim of breeding the dun Connemara. The proportion of greys in the breed, especially in recent years, means that the numbers of bays, roans, duns and others, have become less common. Combining the aims of breeding for quality, ability and colour, Penny sourced her foundation stock after careful research. One of the fillies she bred is Tawnydun Caramel ( Mella - born 2007 ), now owned and exhibited with sucess here by James Naan. In 2008 Penny bought a dun colt foal named Rickamore Surf from the Rickamore Stud of Pam Megahey - with a view to using him at stud. The colt is out of the lovely silver dun mare Grange Topaz Surf, ( bred by Lady Maria Levinge ) and carries the Thunderbolt bloodline via his maternal grand-dam, Kilkerrin Surf.

Court Slaps BLM - Says Mustang Removal Illegal

A federal district court in Washington DC has granted a Summary Judgment Motion Against Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar et al
forbidding removal of the West Douglas Herd of Wild Mustangs from their range in Colorado. This could be huge for all mustangs.
In the case of Colorado Wild Horse and Burro Coalition vs Ken Salazar, Secretary, U.S. Department of the Interior, et al on August 5, 2009, Judge Rosemary M. Collyer of the United States District Court, District of Columbia, ruled as follows: "For reasons explained herein, the Court finds that BLM's decision to remove the West Douglas Herd exceeds the scope of authority that Congress delegated to it in the
Wild Horse Act. The Court will grant in part Plaintiffs' motion for summary judgment, deny Defendants' cross motion for summary judgment, and set aside BLM's decision." In her ruling, Judge Collyer states,
"It is a federal crime to remove a wild free-roaming horse or burro from public lands, convert a wild free-roaming horse or burro to private use, or kill or harass a wild free-roaming horse or burro. Congress delegated to the Secretary of Agriculture and the Secretary of the Interior jurisdiction over all wild free-roaming horses and burros 'for the purpose of management and protection in accordance with the provisions of this chapter.'"
In other words, a federal court has found the BLM in violation of the very law they were appointed to enforce. A lot of folks have been saying that for a long time  and now the point has finally gotten before a federal court and there is a ruling. This is huge. As you probably know we've been on a mission to bring these BLM violations of the 1971 Wild Horse act to light. The act states that wild free-roaming horses and burros will have approximately 52 million acres of land "which is devoted principally to their welfare." But that land has been arbitrarily reduced by approximately 36%, and 95% of the balance has been leased to cattle and sheep ranchers for livestock grazing. The horses and burros are outnumbered 150-to-1 by cattle and sheep on lands that are supposed to be "devoted principally to their welfare." Consequently America's mustangs are in serious danger of extinction. There are approximately 60,000 still-wild mustangs in existence, roughly the same number as in the early '70s. But 33,000 of that 60,000 have been gathered out of the wild and are in BLM holding facilities across the country. And those that remain
in the wild are living below viable levels, which simply put means below the number that must be available for breeding to keep the horse from not being forced into incest for the species to attempt to survive. To my knowledge, this ruling on the Colorado herd is the first ever that addresses the BLM's illegal actions against the wild horses. It could be the beginning of  a new day for this icon of the American west.

Rickamore Joker

The link below is specifically for a photograph of Rickamore Joker.

Joker, who was an April 1st foal, ( born 2004 ), is a great favourite on his yard in Scotland, and renowned for his fantastic temperament. He was Supreme In Hand Champion and M&M Champion at the Aberdeen and District Welsh Pony & Cob Exhibitors Group Show in 2008, delighting his owner, Jill Gunn, beyond her dreams !
He is by Castlestrange Fionn S 1046 and out of Derrartha Pearl M 11898, bred by Pam Megahey in Templepatrick. Pearl was later purchased as a foundation mare by Ivan Adams, Portrush, who has Loguestown Native Breeds.

Jacaranda Prince

Above & immediately below are photos kindly sent to us by Mrs Sarah Browlie of East Lothian, Scotland.  Their pony, Jacaranda Prince, ( known as Barney ), is by Spring Con (CPBS S.725) and out of Laurelgrange Bonny Lass (CPBS M.8698) who is by Murphy Rebel (CPBS S.696) ex Sweet Lass. An exceptional performance pony, he is currently competing at Novice BE, having also done Pony Trials in the UK with Mrs Brownlie's daughter. He has qualified for the Weston Park 1* JRN Championships, and competed there in October 2007. They hoped to do Junior Team Trials with him during 2008.
He was bred by an S.Nickell, Belfast - foaled in 1996 after having bought the mare bred by Mrs.Phoebe Warnock of Laurelgrange, Saintfield. Mrs.Warnock was one of the first breeders of Connemara ponies in the North in recent times. Her foundation mare, Sweet Lass, ( by Abbeyleix Owen ), is still hale and hearty, and boss of the herd !Jacaranda Prince was sold to Mr Scott, Galashiels, Scotland, from whom the Brownlies bought him.
