Bobby Sparrow Blue A Puissance Performance To Be Proud Of

Thanks to member Patricia Dalton from Faughanvale Stables, who sent the following news on September 16th:

Bobby Sparrow Blue has had a few great achievements over the last month. On the 21st August he was joint winner of the first ever Puissance for Pure Bred Connemara Ponies at the home of the Connemara Pony, Clifden, in Connemara, Co. Galway. The competition went to 5 rounds with the wall going to 145cm high. The rider who steered him with such precision was Darren Walsh

The following Saturday at Oughterard, Co. Galway he was outright winner of the Derby class. This class had 20 obstacles including ditches, banks, a stile, drops and of course, Bobby's favourite, the wall.

Justine O'Hara, who is Bobby's usual Showjumping partner, collected fourth place on our home bred Connemara pony 'Vales Bluebird' in the junior section of the Derby at Oughterard. Good going for their first ever Derby!

Another achievement this month was that our new Connemara Stallion,  'Bunowen Castle Pat', achieved Grade 1 status with the Connemara Pony Breeder's Society and will be standing at stud in Faughanvale Stables next season along side 'Bobby Sparrow Blue'

The photographer on the day of the Puissance was Susanne Lehmann. Her web site is
www.foto-job.com The photos on the site are labelled 'Clifden Show, Friday, Puissance',   and the final round photos are nos 9975 and 0022.

And from Helen Troughton comes news of the All Ireland Connemara Loose Jumping Finals, held at Westport.  Her own Annaghmore Ginger ( by Westside Mirah ) finished 5th, while Sinead Thompson's colt, Aille Jacko, also passed this year, was placed 7th. Congratulations to both !

Qualified For Power's Quarry All Ireland Performance Championship

Congratulations to the popular team of Clare Brown and her mum's mare, Ceide Rose, who qualified for the Power's Quarry All Ireland Performance Championship, to be held at Oughterard. Clare and Rose gained their place in the final at the WCPS Show at Balmoral during July. Not only that, but, riding Amanda Dempsey's honest big pony, Archie, ( Cloonisle Cashel Blue - by Cloonisle Cashel ) she qualified for Cheshire.

A Fair Prospect At The RDS

The 148cm Showjumping at Dublin Show on August 7th was won by Prospect Peter, the mount of Kellie Allen. With the only clear round in the jump-off, the grey Connemara by Billy S 893 ( by Catamaran S 828 ) and out of the Fair Justice mare, Justice Pet, powered around the course !  Peter was bred by Mrs. Lucille Smyth - Tarpey, of Prospect House, Oranmore, Co.Galway. The well regarded Sillogue Darkie was unfortunate to be eliminated after his rider missed out a fence in his hurry to take a short-cut, resulting in elimination.

Caoimhe a' Chara - A Friend Indeed In The Eventing World

It is amazing how horsey co-incidences can turn up ! As the saying goes, ' it's a small world ! '  While having a mare checked out at the Auburn Veterinary Clinic, near Crumlin, the fact that our mare is a Connemara was picked up by the practice secretary, Samantha Hamilton.  It turns out that she events a purebred, but over height, mare named Caoimhe a' Chara ! The talented and much loved grey mare was bred in 2000 by Paddy Folan in Rosmuc, out of his faithful Abbeyleix Owen mare, Turlough Harp M 9756.  Sired by Ashfield Jovial Joker S 886, she showjumps and events with Samantha aboard, and is registered with Eventing Ireland.  Caoimhe a'Chara is fully CPBS registered,
M 2 - 16594.  Turlough Harp changed hands in 2006, when she came north to Co.Tyrone with the Coleman family in Ballymaguigan. Since then, she has become a treasured mare at the Ardville Stud of Ernie and Jane Somerville near Belleek.  It was great to be able to tell Samantha that we had met her mare's dam, and know so many of her family !  The Coleman family sold Ivy Harp, a bay Kingstown Boy daughter, but retained a grey Lettermuckoo Lad filly, born in 2007, who shows a lot of promise.  Like Turlough, she is a very deep bodied filly, and should make a great brood mare. She is named Quiggan Harp.   Best wishes to them all !
